Best Oral Presentation – Tunisian Bioinformatics Conference 2025

It was a true pleasure to participate in the inaugural edition of the Tunisian Bioinformatics Conference, where I had the opportunity to deliver an oral presentation on DelMoro and explore a topic that goes beyond code: “To flow or not to flow, that is the pipeline’s question.”

The central message of my talk focused on addressing the reproducibility crisis in bioinformatics. Too often, we develop tools or publish workflows that work perfectly under a specific set of conditions, only to fail or become unusable in other contexts. Reproducibility is not just about automation; it is also about accessibility and capability. Ensuring that workflows can be easily executed and understood by a broad audience is just as important as making them technically correct.

This is why DelMoro was designed with inclusivity in mind. Beyond supporting command-line users, it provides a built-in graphical user interface that allows non-technical users, such as clinicians and diagnostic labs, to run pipelines without using the terminal. The goal is simple but essential: making reproducible workflows usable and practical for everyone, not just bioinformaticians.

In summary, building reproducible science is both a technical and a cultural challenge. Tools like Nextflow provide the structure and flexibility to streamline workflows while fostering collaboration, enabling the community to move forward together with confidence in the results. I am thrilled that this vision resonated with the audience and contributed to advancing the discussion on reproducible and accessible bioinformatics.
