Gene Hunt Workshop Training
Workshop Announcement: View Announcement
I officially led the "Gene Hunt" online workshop, delivered over two interactive sessions on 9 and 11 December. The workshop was designed as an intensive, beginner-friendly introduction to bioinformatics, helping participants build foundational skills while providing a broad overview of different bioinformatics analysis disciplines.
Following a flipped-classroom approach and incorporating modern learning strategies, the workshop emphasized hands-on exploration and guided demonstrations. Participants learned how to efficiently navigate major biological databases, retrieve reliable genomic information, and perform effective literature searches using widely adopted bioinformatics resources.
Throughout the workshop, participants explored:
- Navigation of major biological databases, including NCBI Gene, PubMed, UniProt, Ensembl, GeneCards, OMIM, and ENA/SRA.
- Gene and protein expression resources, with practical demonstrations using the Expression Atlas.
- Advanced literature searching techniques using MeSH terms and PubMed filters for precise scientific queries.
- The use of AI chatbots and automated tools to accelerate gene information retrieval and parsing workflows.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical skills for biological data exploration while introducing efficient research workflows that integrate traditional bioinformatics resources with modern AI-assisted tools.
